howdy howdy!
currently accepting new clients!
I’m Joy. I am a trauma therapist in the Orlando area, serving clients all across the state. I love breaking the barrier between conscious and unconscious, and connecting individuals back to themselves. The why behind “Why do I do this?”, and the how behind “How can I change?”.
I love working with all individuals, but especially young adults, that are looking to foster relationships inward, and those that are wanting to unpack trauma. Anyone that is wanting to get to know themselves, and be curious to get there. These days, there is a lot of chatter around “inner child work” and things of that nature, that’d be me!
I can definitely be a little “woo woo” and non-traditional, but I notice that as a client, I want my therapist to be a human being! To emote and express with me, and I love being that therapist for others.
As a minority, my hope is to be a safe space for those also struggling to find their place in our current world, while untangling the implications of the experience. I do not agree that politics don’t belong in therapy, and am always open to those conversations.
When I am not in the office, I am typically reading a book with a hot cup of tea, watching Anthony Bourdain, or fitting in a nap with my two cats. My favorite artists are The Marias, Ekkstacy, Tokyo Tea Room and Tennis. I reset with some gym time, booking some time with my tattoo artist, or just chatting with some friends to reset!

My Approach
Slow and Steady
Trauma work is hard work. So I take a “longer” time to establish coping skills, understanding of emotions, and ability for one to navigate their own experience by means of psychoeducation. Slowing down the pace to ensure safety for trauma work and building self understanding and confidence to approach the hard stuff.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic is an approach that stretches the mind. The idea that so much unconscious content is the reason behind our behaviors. Anxiety as a means of protection or certain thoughts born out of unknown and unseen reasons. Using this approach allows for finding the origin, healing that wound, and moving forward with long lasting change.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an evidence based approach for trauma. Typically used for single event trauma, this modality is experiential and can be used for complex or childhood trauma with the use of other psychodynamic foundations.
Person Centered
Research shows that the relationship is the greatest indicator for therapeutic growth. Person centered for me means personalized care, true curiosity for who you are, and openness between the two of us. Trust is a key component for our work together. I encourage and am open to all feedback, as it betters our work together and builds trust.
